Are You Treating It Like A Real Business ?

Hello Everyone, I am on week 5 of my pro blogging commitment and we are nearing the end of the month. If you remember I posted my month end goal and action plan. I still haven’t implemented many of the strategies in the action plan yet and additionally I could only post 2 blog posts each during the last two weeks. But in place of the missed blog posts, I did post 3 videos on youtube in the last 2 weeks, which feels good.

Anyway, It is during these occasions that I need to go back and remind myself of my commitment and get back on track. So today I would like to talk about why you need to treat your online business like a real business and have real goals. This is very important because this one factor that can make or break your online business.

Having The Right Attitude

You can’t reach the front line of a running race if you already know in your mind that you will never win the first prize. The same is true with your online business, if you know in your mind that you will not make money from an online business, your actions will follow your beliefs and what you believe in your mind will indeed become a reality. This is because your mind plays a major role in deciding the kind of results that you get. If you are believing for failure, that’s what you’ll get.

If you watch how world record athletes talk and act before and during the competition. You will know from their actions that they are setting out for the first place Gold. Their actions and their attitude will say it out loud. That’s the same attitude we should have with our online business as well. I found a video that’s truly inspiring. In addition to having a positive attitude about your business, you also need to set proper goals and expectations about your online business. If you don’t have a vision about a better business and a better future, you can’t expect to see any change.

Act On Your Goals

When it comes to your online business, you act on what you want to achieve. If you don’t have any goals, you simply won’t be working in that direction. And the result will be failure.

Now that reminds me of a recent experience I had with an internet marketing consulting client.

Experience With A Consulting Client

Recently I offered a free internet marketing consulting for an online business that offers one on one as well as group english classes via Skype. I created a complete video marketing strategy for them free of cost. On first view itself I could see that this business has a huge potential of earning thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars every month. But the business owner was only making around $500 every month. He already had nearly 60 teachers who takes online Skype english classes for their business. Also these teachers are ready to create informative content to promote their business online. I already offered a free consulting for this business owner around two years back and offered him some free ideas. I suggested him to create a YouTube channel with intro videos of all their teachers, and as per my suggestion he already got a YT channel with video intro of nearly 60 teachers, he seemed to have done it around a year back.

These teachers are a huge advantage to his business as they are all ready to create and publish video content to promote his business. When I thought about it, even if each teacher just creates one video, sharing at least one english speaking tip per week, that will be like publishing 60 content rich videos addressing their exact audience, each and every week. This could easily bring him hundreds of ultra targetted visitors to his website every day, which can be effectively converted to sales. But the problem was that, the business owner could not see the real potential of all the resources he got at his disposal. When I did the consulting with him on Skype and asked him of his goal, he said he wanted to make a few pennies from clicks to the links on a particular page in his website.

Because of that kind of mentality, he wasn’t ready to do what needs to be done to make the well needed changes to better his business. He wasn’t even ready to invest on an auto responder service. I simply asked him to treat his business like a real business and then it’ll give him real results.

What’s Holding You From Building An Online Business

For many years I treated my online business really poorly because of my studies, work, business and lots of of things which you can read in my blog post here. And because I didn’t treat it like a real business I never got business like results. But when it comes to our pharmaceutical business, since it’s a real business, it’s much easier to treat it like a real business as I am working with real people, real buyers, sellers, products, payments etc.

But when it comes to an online business, it can be difficult at times. Because the time span between working and seeing the results online can sometimes be discouraging. We can’t exactly predict the results of our efforts. So online business is an area where you need much more faith and action. The one thing that all of need to remember is, if we are consistent at building up our online business, like we do our real business, we will surely see results. I would like to end with an image that will surely make you to think in the right direction.

Never Give Up

Now I said it all because I want you to think about your attitude towards your online business. Do you really treat it like a business ? Have you set real goals about what you want to achieve with your business ? Are you consistently working on your online business with a determination to not give up until you see results ?
