wedding day

Just wanted to send you a quick update. I just deleted 1285 email subscribers from one of my mailing list. It’s not because I hate them or they don’t want to hear from me, I did it because I was simply not providing them value. These subscribers were built on a health niche and I was promoting natural medications, ebooks, and softwares targeted to these audience. Talking of these subscribers, these were not subscribers that I easily obtained, they were hard earned subscribers. The one traffic source that worked really well for this niche was YouTube, as the competition was too low on youtube for the keywords in this niche. So I was putting more focus on YouTube marketing to drive traffic for this specific niche.

My strategy was to use YouTube videos as the traffic source for building my email list, which I then directed to my squeeze page, where I captured the email addresses of visitors, which then received information on dealing with the disorder as well as information on some specific products that I was promoting that worked really well for the condition. I had created dozens of youtube videos for this specific niche. And those videos were ranking on top of youtube and google for many high traffic keywords. After creating so many videos, I reached a point where my videos came up on youtube and Google for every good keyword searched on this niche. But that was when suddenly disaster struck.

One of the videos I created, talked about the side effects of some of the prescription drugs given for this condition. That probably annoyed some of the prescription drug manufacturers (I believe), causing the youtube channel to be suspended by Google, stating that it violated their community guidelines or something along the lines. Long story short, since I was putting all my eggs (videos) in one basket (youtube), getting it deleted instantly resulted in a cease of traffic to my squeeze page. From that moment onwards I quit working on that site, but the 1000+ subscribers I built on that niche stayed with me until now. I thought about directing these subscribers to my other sites, but then I thought that was not they subscribed on to my mailing list, so the best thing would be to delete. Long story short, I deleted all those email id’s today.

While some may think it is a bad decision, I think it’s a good choice. Why ?

#1. I wasn’t offering value to my subscribers, since the point when I decided to stop working on the niche.

#2. As long as the emails stayed with me, I needed to pay extra money for aweber – the autoresponder service I use and recommend.

#3. Having too many distractions could hinder my progress and focus on the other niches where I my attention was required.

Lesson You Can Learn:

– Remove distractions

– Delete unused subscribers to reduce your monthly autoresponder subscription fee

– Offer value to your readers and subscribers, if you can’t then better stop doing it

  1. On the other thought, you could have moved them from aweber to mailchimp which is a free option upto 2000 subscribers.
